why quiet

The loud versions of this story already exist. You have seen them: the flag as a block of colour, the map, the slogan in capitals. They are made for the street and they do their work there. These drawings are made for a kitchen, an office, a train. They are small. They wait to be read.

A cactus does not shout. Neither does a key on a nail, or two glasses of tea, or a sum a child could check. Each drawing is one ordinary thing, one Arabic word, and at most one date. That is the whole rule. If a drawing needed a caption to explain itself, we took the caption away and kept the drawing.

Every date on every drawing is checked against a source before it is drawn, and the source is on the page you are reading. The numbers that change daily do not go on cloth. The numbers people argue about are shown as ranges, with who says what. What we print will still be true in 2040.

The drawings are made by a hand that is not good at straight lines on purpose. One 0.5 mm fineliner, one sitting, no undo. Closed shapes never quite close. The line the pencil drew in 1949 wanders because the hand that held it did. If it looked printed, it would be lying.

The loudest thing here is the name over the door, and it stays there. freepalestine.wiki is the shop; the garments carry drawings, and no garment carries a slogan.

Five euros from every T-shirt and ten from every hoodie are given by us, from our own revenue, to a medical charity working in Gaza and the West Bank — named here once the written agreement is signed. It is not a payment by you and it buys you no receipt. We transfer monthly and we publish every transfer, with the charity's receipt, on one page. The page is live now and it is empty. The first row appears the month after the first shipment.
